How they did it at the Panther Works Successful application of the original type English varnish transfers requires precise timing and careful attention to detail. Most transfers have been replicated in modern pressure-sensitive form, but some varnish transfers are still in circulation. If you are a purist, and you have found the original type transfers for your machine, the following information will be of great interest to you... First presented in our Vintage catalog No.1, (1980) these varnish transfer directions came from Mr. A. Wharton, who says, "I used to transfer all the Panther motorcycles from 1933 until 1966 when the last Panther was made." |
Varnish Transfers |

1. Using drafting tape, mark out the location for the transfer (ensures correct horizontal and vertical alignment). 2. Cover transfer with thin, even coat of quick drying varnish. 3. Wait until varnish is tacky. 4. Place transfer on article where required. 5. When varnish is perfectly dry, damp the tissue peel off, and then lightly sponge over the surface of the transfer     to remove gum. 6. Varnish transfer and article completely. Although this technique seems easy enough, we recommend that you practice before trying it out on a freshly refinished tank. |

Separate the decal from the paper backing at the edge. 4. While holding the transfer in one hand use the other hand to adhere the transfer. 5. Rub evenly with your free hand to ensure there are no wrinkles or bubbles between the mounting surface     and transfer. 6. Varnish transfer and article completely.
